Chelsea Kaplan’s Musings About Life... After Birth
Posted by Chelsea on December 02, 2009
This afternoon at 2:15 p.m. EST on XM 155 or Sirius 102, I’ll be joining Broads Molly and Christine to share some of my favorite hostess and teacher (or really, anyone who you feel needs a small token of your appreciation) gift ideas! Here’s what we’ll be checking out:
1) Fresh Frankincense, Myrrh and Gold Oval Soap and Petite Candle Trios, $45 each, neimanmarcus.com or fresh.com.
I get the gold, but who knows what the deal was with the original gifts of frankincense and myrrh? These collections of artisanal, triple-milled, pure vegetable soaps and candles with lead-free wicks, however, leave no room for interpretation. Laced with absolutely delicious, season-inspired scents , each set, which comes in a gift-ready box, is undoubtedly a precious gift.

2) “The Best Casserole Cookbook Ever” and Slow Cooker: The Best Cookbook Ever, $16.47 each, amazon.com.
Don’t hate on the way your mom used to make dinner — casserole and slow-cooker cooking is very 2010 (not to mention, convenient. These two books make 70’s-era cuisine gourmet again, and offer tasty, healthy recipes for quick and easy, yet totally elegant meals.
3) Jo Malone Tea Box Deluxe Candle Collection, $395, jomalone.com.
The perfect “from the whole office” gift, this limited-edition keepsake is extremely indulgent and luxurious. Nestled in a beautifully textured cream-colored tea box are three uniquely scented deluxe candles complete with engraved Jo Malone candle lids and a silver-plated wick trimmer and candle snuffer. The candle scents include Eau de Cologne, Parma Violets and Sweet Almond Macaroon.

The Kiefer Cottage
Meet the Kiefers: a quirky, lovable family of five on a quest to transform their 1940s Kansas City bungalow into the house of their dreams. The budget is small, the dreams are big, the creativity is inspiring. Check them out - you can thank us later. Happy reading, everybody!
Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day® All Purpose Cleaner
I don't understand gals who claim to loooove cleaning. That said, I do get a certain joy from using Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day® All Purpose Cleaner to care for my home. You can't lose with this stuff...it is hard-working & earth-friendly, and will leave your abode smelling like a day spa instead of a chemical spill. Try Lemon Verbena in the kitchen and Basil in the bathroom. At only $7.99 a bottle, you can afford to pick up both!
True Blood
Um, does this even need a caption? Doubtful, but let me just say that this is the hottest hour on television. Vampires are seriously sexy (especially Eric), and on this show you get to see a lot of them--if you get what I mean. Put the kids to bed and flip the channel to HBO on Sundays at 9 p.m. to taste the fun that is True Blood.
Valentino Bow Thong Sandals
So comfy and feminine, I know I'd wear them all summer. But dang, that much money for jellies? Possibly worth the splurge. $275, nordstrom.com
New Balance Kids’ Sneakers in wide sizes
My boys have wide feet, which means finding cute shoes for them is tough. These, however, rock. Prices vary, visit nbwebexpress.com to purchase.
Zoya “Laurie” Nail Polish
This sheer pink polish is, without question, the PERFECT nude pink. Plus, the polish is free of formaldehyde, toluene, camphor and dibutyl phthalate (read: yucky crap that isn't really safe for prego gals). $6, enailsupply.com.

My car radio was still set to “Rose’s” channel when I went out for an errand. I had the misfortune of listening to two prejudiced yentas who declared that certain gifts would not be appropriate for a male teacher “unless he was gay.”
How rude to assume that a “straight” man wouldn’t want such things and a “gay” man would! Talk about your sweeping generalizations!
“The Best Casserole Cookbook Ever” and Slow Cooker: The Best Cookbook Ever, I want to try this one here.
